If you love fishing, trout is a great catch in Indiana. Steelhead trout spawn in early spring, but start their migration upstream in September. So you have all winter long to catch these chrome beauties. Tip: Spinners, flies and shrimp are the best bait.
Interested in fisheries? Northwest Indiana, on the banks of the St. Joseph River in South Bend is one of the best steelhead fisheries in the Great Lakes region. Check out Department of Natural Resources’ video about steelhead spawning and stocking.
