The Monon has been a favorite outdoor venue of mine since I moved to downtown Indy a few years ago. The Monon runs from downtown through Broad Ripple north to downtown Carmel. It’s great for runners, walkers, skaters and bikers. The Broad Ripple and Carmel sections of the trail are lined with unique shops and cafes.

I live near Broad Ripple and work straight up Meridian in Carmel. I’ve found that I can ride my bike to work by taking the Monon and get there almost as fast as driving–and there is a lot less traffic. It has truly been one of my favorite parts of moving to the city.
I’d love it if Carmel would finish the trail that runs along a part of Guilford Ave., though.
I live pretty close to work. I’ve not done the bike thing, but I think I’ll start walking this Summer.
Not that it’s in the direction of your work, but you should take the Monon downtown and try out the Indy Cultural Trail. It’s a great way to get around town to all the cultural districts and attractions.
